having fun with zumba

I remember in my May post that I mentioned wii zumba. Well, hubby gave in and buys me one of that last July. I have to say, it’s indeed a fun way to exercise. Even if I’m alone doing it, I’m still having fun and it doesn’t bore me. I guess it’s because it’s in a video game format where I’m challenged and exercising at the same time. It’s a much better way to spend my time as compared to sitting in front of my computer playing online games. With it, I’m not only mentally stimulated, I’m also doing physical activity.

Basically, Zumba Fitness is the first and only Latin-inspired dance-fitness program that has taken the world by storm. It features nine different dance styles, such as salsa, hip-hop, and mambo and uses the included Zumba Fitness belt to create a real-time gaming experience. The belt wraps around the waist allowing the motion controller to move with the motion of your hips where the movement originates from. Learning the Zumba moves and techniques is simple with the help of Zumba instructors Tanya, Gina, and Zumba’s creator Beto.

Warning to Skin Peeling Products

“We are warning consumers about the use of skin peelers because they can cause serious injuries, particularly when not used under the supervision of a physician,” said Commissioner David A. Kessler, M.D.

The FDA issued the warning after it received reports of several injuries caused by chemical skin peeling products. The products in question contain ingredients that are supposed to remove wrinkles, blemishes, blotches and acne scars, usually claiming that they restore youthful-looking skin. But the FDA says they may penetrate the skin too deeply, causing severe skin damage. In several cases, persons have been hospitalized for severe burns, swelling and pain.

Harsh chemical peeling products contain different ingredients and their strengths vary, as may each person’s reactions to the chemicals used. Peeling products usually contain different acids such as resorcinol, phenol, lactic acid, trichloroacetic acid, salicylic acid, and glycolic acid and other alpha hydroxy acids. These are generally applied to the skin for a brief time each day, for 6 to 12 days. The skin initially reddens, like sunburn, then darkens and finally peels away, revealing what manufacturers claim will be “new skin.” But treatments may be painful and leave permanent scars.

Chemical peels used to be performed only by plastic surgeons and dermatologists. However, they are now administered by a variety of non-medical professionals such as cosmetologists and beauticians, some using newly marketed preparations. Some of the products can even be purchased by mail. Many have inadequate instructions; none have been approved by FDA as being safe and effective. [Read more...]

chairs for mom and dad

Though it is still too early to say, but I feel like everything is falling into plan. I just hope it will continue to be this way until we can successfully fulfill our goals. If ever, I can finally do all the things I promised to mom like house; if not renovation, and new furnishings. I’ve been telling her that a long time, yet there are only few that I can do.

Anyway, one of the furnishings I promised are the Muskoka chairs. Both my parents love to spend their time in the yard sipping coffee and chatting especially in early morning and in the afternoon. That’s why they requested for it. I have to admit, I don’t have that much this time that’s why I made a promise and include it in my things to fulfill. When I have enough, I will not forget to buy these chairs for them.

dad now keeps his tools

Being part of the industrial industry, dad has several tools kept in the house like cutting tools, fasteners, bearings and so on. Sometimes he will leave them in the site especially if the work takes a while to finish. But, most of the time he brings them home. However, he has this attitude of “leaving everything to mom.” He let mom take care of everything. But, mom is already too busy taking care of the chores. Oftentimes she forgets the things she kept properly. That’s why dad ends up losing some of his tools even newly bought ones.

After sometime, he realizes that he is wasting his precious supplies just because he leaves everything to mom. So, he learns to keep them by himself, which is better. At least that way, he knows where to find them whenever he needs to use them. If he only does that a long time ago, I’m sure he will not lose anything.

suffering from different conditions

A few weeks ago, hubby’s sister has been hospitalized due to hypertension. Like what is said, high blood pressure is a silent killer and most people do not often notice it until the blood pressure is measured. It’s the same thing that happens to her. Good thing she decided to see a doctor after battling with the symptoms the whole day, the situation could have been worse if she did not.

But, with those entire tests done, the doctors also found she has thyroid imbalance. Based on what hubby describes she has hyperthyroidism, which is much less common than hypothyroidism. With regard to this, she really needs to consult a thyroid doctor Austin. Her thyroid problems need to be address properly with a treatment plan based on her specific symptoms and test results. It’s the way to resolve her symptoms of thyroid imbalance.

It’s sad to hear she has to attend to a lot of conditions. But, she really needs to take good care of her health because she has two little boys who really need her by their side.

Study Finds Youthful Faces Live Longer

Perhaps, looking younger than one’s age is a curse while growing up, especially as a teen, but it has solid advantages later on in life because it can predict a longer life for the person in question. Researchers have established that a fresh-faced appearance means a longer life, as opposed to those who usually look older than they really are.

Danish researchers looked at 387 pairs of twins to come up with the conclusion mentioned above. Nurses, teachers and colleagues were asked to look at photos of the twins and estimate which one looked younger; then, they determined that the one who did not look their age actually lived a longer life than the twin who seemed older. The explanation for that was found in DNA pieces called telomeres, which were longer in younger looking people. People who looked younger had longer telomeres. All of the twins were in their 70s, 80s or 90s when they were photographed. Over a seven-year follow-up the researchers found that the bigger the difference in perceived age within a pair, the more likely it was that the older-looking twin died first.

Perceived age, which is widely used by clinicians as a general indication of a patient’s health, is a robust biomarker of ageing that predicts survival among those aged over 70. It’s probably a combination of genes plus environment over a lifetime that is important. [Read more...]
