Little Ways to Keep Healthy and Happy

Little Ways to Keep Healthy and HappyAs most of you notice, self-help books are gaining ground with many segments of the market and that’s mostly because they promise a very easy solution to most problems. Whether it’s financial difficulties or divergences with our life partner, many of these books offer similar answers on all matters. The following four tips for a healthier and happier life do not fall in this categories.

Getting adequate sleep can help you lose weight, fight infections, recall memories and think more clearly. Spending just 30 minutes a day in the sunlight to soak up vitamin D across a broad swath of the country can reduce your risk for a variety of cancers, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, osteoporosis and many other diseases. Volunteering to help others can lower your risk for depression and heart disease, raise your self-esteem and happiness and extend your life, according to numerous studies.

Having enough exercise is the one thing that is not mentioned but should also be included. Not only does moderate exercise improve health, but it also acts to boost our mood for at least a few hours after the session is over, as past studies have already shown. Working out also has a social function, in that routines that involve more people can act to bind them together, like it happens with football and other similar sports teams. So, always think healthy guys!

dreamed vacation for the holidays

dreamed vacation for the holidays

We’ve finally saved enough money to go on our dreamed vacation for the holidays and was about to buy a travel insurance. But, before we could prepare for it there is a major event that occurs. The simple abdominal pain isn’t that simple after all. Hubby was diagnosed with an acute appendicitis and has to go to undergo operation.

Of course we have to follow the doctor’s advice or face major consequences in the end. But, that would mean postponing our planned vacation. The good thing we still have money to spend for our Christmas celebration. Despite everything, we are still in the mood to observe the holidays.

avoiding holiday weight gain

I may want to avoid gaining weight this holiday season, but it seems I can’t. There is an abundance of food during this time of the year. And the loneliest part is the fact that my appetite is at its optimum. Would it be nice to use appetite suppressants? I really don’t know. I haven’t tried it yet. According to my friend, the only way to find out is to use it.

I think I’ll just have to avoid attending parties and all. Hehehe! Joke only. That is the most impossible thing that I will do because I love parties and food. Hehehe! Very contradicting! I’m also confused how to do this.

Making your Water Flavored and Exciting

Making your Water Flavored and excitingMost of us are feeling the effects of the holiday now and the traditional meal in particular for the days to come. One way to cut down on calories these days without actually feeling like it is by replacing diet with flavored water that we can prepare ourselves. We all know that juices and sodas now usually come with very high sugar content, which is why they’re often referred to as caloric bombs that deliver only empty calories. This translates into a few inches more on our waist and, of course, a decrease in health as well. To prevent that while still enjoying a sweet drink, we can learn how to make our own flavored water.

It is possible that we might get bored very easily by simply adding a slice of lemon in our glass of water. If, for instance, we don’t have time to make homemade lemonade and drink it instead of water, we can add a few drops of natural juice to a bottle of water and thus make sure it gets a special, but vague flavor. The combination of lime and orange is to kill for.

Adding herbs to your water put a few sprigs of fresh mint in my H20 pitcher or even lemongrass. Add freshly cut cucumbers. This small addition really gives water a clean and refreshing taste that is ever so subtle. Add fresh sliced ginger, and you’ve made yourself a natural tummy tamer. Or you can add pickle juice to water and make your own electrolyte replacement drink. It might sound gross but it really works! For a hint of sweetness, crush up some berries or pomegranate seeds into your water. But, if you’re really craving soda, liven up soda water.

wanting to buy a house

One of the things that I want to have is a home that I can call my own. This is my dream ever since a child and it continues to be a dream until now. Before I thought is as easy as one, two, and three. I thought that if I graduated from college I can buy a house already. However, in reality that is not the case. Having an eight hour work in a company is not enough. That is in my view point of course.

Although it may take me longer than what I thought, for sure I have the will to get it. For now I continually checked on several home types. I even consider manufactured home after reading an article about it. It is said that this type of home has several benefits and the most obvious one is the cost. Manufactured homes cost lesser than that of other home types. Aside from that there are no reasons for delays which make it even more cost effective and the list of benefits goes on and on. So, there it goes. This is the reason I could not ignore this type of home in my list.

wonder what gifts to receive

The month of November is soon ending. Most people are already counting the days to Christmas. I can’t deny the fact that Christmas is on the air. The malls and parks already light their Christmas trees. Decorations are just around every corner. And, I have been receiving business gifts especially Christmas cards from the stores I made transactions.

Last year, I was able to collect at least six different items from companies such as pens, cups, towels, umbrella, t-shirts and Christmas cards. Of course, most of these items bear the name of the companies with Christmas greetings. It became some sort of advertising medium or something like that. Despite that I still love the presents and I am still using most of it now especially the cups, towels, umbrella and t-shirts. The pens already ran out of ink so I have to dispose them. The cards are kept in a box together with some other documents.

I wonder what I will receive this Christmas. For sure I know what I will give. But, my gifts are limited to family members. Hehehe!

Tips to improve your sleeping habits

Improving your sleep habits doesn’t mean sleeping more hours or taking more naps during the day. There are actually methods to optimize your body’s inner sleep system to sleep less, and have more energy in your life than when you slept longer. While most people think sleep is just “sleep,” it is actually a complex and fascinating system which I would be glad to share with you. So, here are some ways to improve your sleeping habits.

  • Sleep in a dark room. (How bright is your illuminated clock?)
  • Develop a sleep routine: going to bed at the same time; rituals such as having a cup of relaxing tea and then washing up, and the like.
  • Avoid taking naps.
  • Is your sleeping space comfortable? Look at light, noise and temperature. How about your bed? Is it too firm or too soft?
  • Avoid late night heavy meals. However, a light snack at bedtime may be helpful. [Read more...]
