Aromatherapy is the therapeutic use of essential oils (concentrated fragrant plant extracts) to help you relax and relieve your various symptoms. Essential oils enter your body through inhalation and absorption. They can be used in various ways.
- Inhalation, directly or through steam
- Diffusers and vaporizers, using electrical gadgets, burners that use candles, or ceramic rings warmed by a light bulb
- Massage, the most common and effective
- Bath scented with chosen oils. Footbaths are helpful for chilblains, blisters caused by exposure to cold and humidity.
- Compresses, which relieve bruising, skin conditions, and muscle and period pains
- Only a few oils can be applied directly to the skin. Other oils can cause irritation
- Never take aromatherapy oils internally. They are extremely potent and can be poisonous.
