What Causes Dark Spots?
An insect bite causes an inflammatory reaction in the skin and subcutaneous tissue, resulting in itching, redness, and swelling. Later on pigment cells in the skin secrete melanin, which causes darkish discoloration or hyperpigmentation. Scratching the area results in super facial skin breaks, and produces further release of pigments, especially in dark-skinned individuals.
Removing Dark Spots!
Skin products that contain glycolic acid or alpha hydroxyl acids (AHA) are effective for this job. These acids are water-soluble and naturally occurring, commonly found in certain fruits like grapes, citrus, and apples. They are capable of removing old, dead, and wrinkled skin. They effectively treat skin darkening by removing the upper layer with less or no pigmentation.
Choose products with lower concentrations of glycolic acid or AHA. Follow manufacturer’s instructions. Over-the-counter preparations are usually safe for home use. Test the product first on non-critical areas if you have sensitive skin. If this does not work, see your dermatologist.
